Learn More About Our Superkraut Ingredients

Updated: Jun 6

We know you love the taste of our krauts! But what you may or may not know is that each ingredient has been carefully selected for their health and vitality inducing properties… elevating our jars of fermented goodness from sauerkraut to superkraut!

GREEN We all know the power of vegetables, especially the green ones, so we decided to add a few powerhouse ingredients to our probiotic-rich kraut recipe to really boost the nutrition. Gotu kola, spirulina and chlorella have all recently come into the health food spotlight for a reason! These green goodies are highly concentrated with nutritional goodness, just as nature intended, and a little addition of Green Superkraut to your meal will really take the nourishment up a notch. Gotu Kola Originating in the wetlands of South East Asia, this plant is a highly valued herbal medicine in Ayurvedic and Chinese herbal practices. Packed with vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, Gotu kola has been praised for its memory-enhancing, antioxidant, and neuro-protecting activities. Using nature as medicine, this little plant has been used to treat symptoms of depression, anxiety and even Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, Gotu Kola was also revered in India and China for its ability to enhance spirituality. In fact, many still refer to it as the “Herb of Enlightenment.” Spirulina A slightly more well known green superfood, spirulina is perhaps better known for its pungent taste and rich colour more than anything else, but just why have this algae made its way into every health food store? This cyanobacterium (yes it’s also a probiotic!) helps the body detox from environmental toxins and is also packed with iron, protein B vitamins and even essential fatty acids.

KIMCHI We love how fermented foods are historically a staple in many cultures. Kimchi is the Korean answer to probiotic goodness, most often made from Chinese cabbage and chilli. If you can’t tell from the colour of our kimchi, we’ve packed it with anti-inflammatory goodness. We’ve added in organic turmeric, garlic and ginger, three ingredients which have been praised for their anti-inflammatory properties. It’s been said that all disease stems from inflammation and we know that treating your body with love through nature’s superfoods is key when it comes to health. Curcumin is the active component in turmeric and is among the most effective anti-inflammatory compounds in the world. Proving to compete with pharmaceutical medicines in the treatment of many diseases, this powerful root really shows the incredible force of nature. Turmeric root has been used in Indian and Ayurvedic medicine for centuries to cure almost every health concern and as a daily part of life. We also added a touch of cayenne, not just to fire up the flavour but for its ability to stimulate circulation, boost metabolism and aid in digestion. As we mentioned earlier, our kimchi is a serious anti-inflammatory flavour bomb to add to your day.

DILL Pioneering the way for Peace, Love & Vegetables, our Dill Superkraut was the first jar to brave the shelves. Developed with a vision of creating the ultimate health enhancing organic sauerkraut, this baby boasts an unstoppable combination of cabbage, dill and caraway seeds. Sometimes the simplest of superfoods can be found right in our backyards. And at PLV, we never underestimate the power of fresh veggies and herbs! They boast some serious health benefits, that are often forgotten about. Aside from adding that distinctive fresh and cooling flavour, fresh dill contains anti-viral and antioxidant properties. In fact, extracts of the dill plant have even been used to aid digestion, lower cholesterol and help treat depression. We’ve also added caraway seeds, a spice highly valued for its medicinal benefits, particularly for digestive conditions. This unique flavour is common in Middle Eastern and North African cuisines and we think adds an epic depth of flavour to our Dill Super-Kraut. Paired with our probiotic-rich fermented cabbage, this popular flavour as an epic addition to any meal and is the tastiest way to take your gut health to the next level. SEAWEED The ocean is home to a huge amount of minerals and superfoods that grow and live unaffected by soil quality. Think of how beautiful and diverse our oceans are! We’ve harnessed the magic of the salty ocean and added into this jar of fermented goodness to provide your body with love. Into our Seaweed Super-Kraut, we’ve added Australian grown, wild harvested wakame and ORMUS. Known as super sea minerals, ORMUS are a collection of naturally occurring elements that are locked inside sea plants and are packed with minerals we can’t get from land-grown produce, which is highly affected by the soil quality. Australian grown, wild harvested and unique to us, the Tasmanian wakame in this kraut is packed with B vitamins, iron, magnesium and zinc. Seaweed has made its way onto menus due to its rich concentration of these minerals and has been praised for its effect on digestion, dental health and detoxification. We all know the power of the deep blue, but if you can’t make it into the salty ocean, add a little sea goodness to your day with our Seaweed Superkraut.
